The renewed outbreak of coronavirus in Victoria has prompted significant changes to border requirements across Australia. The NHVR are working hard to collate and provide the most accurate, timely information and will endeavour to keep you informed as things evolve. Monday 20 July update

New South Wales

Current border entry permits will expire at midnight on Tuesday 21 July. All operators travelling from Victoria will be required to be RE-APPLY for a COVID-19 NSW border entry permit if travelling after this date. It is also recommended that all essential workers wear a face mask. Freight drivers should apply for a border pass under the exemption category “Critical services – movement of freight or persons on a commercial basis” - Re-apply for a COVID-19 NSW border entry permit

South Australia

All essential freight workers must wear a face mask when entering South Australia and self-quarantine in their truck or other private arrangement when not undertaking work-related duties. This is not a requirement for essential freight workers who are not Victorian residents.

Victoria

From 11.59pm on Wednesday 22 July, there will be changes to restrictions across Victoria to help reduce the risk of the COVID-19 spreading. This includes advice to wear a face covering if you are driving for work, such as deliveries. The latest information on updated restrictions in Victoria.

Wednesday 15 July update

The Northern Territory has added the entirety of the Sydney metropolitan area to their list of declared hotspots. All of Victoria is also currently a declared hotspot.

There are no travel exemptions for those coming from a hotspot and you will not be allowed to enter the Northern Territory. This includes essential workers in the freight Industry.

If you previously held an exemption to travel from a hotspot this is revoked immediately.

Tuesday 14 July update

The Queensland Government has announced that from midday today the local government areas of Liverpool and Campbelltown in NSW are declared coronavirus hotspots and travel from these areas is significantly restricted. All of Victoria is also a declared hotspot.

All freight drivers are still able to travel into Queensland but are required to have a Queensland border pass that must be renewed every seven days. 

All drivers must adhere to additional health regulations:

  • Self-isolate in truck or accommodation when not working
  • Keep records of close contacts for 14 days
  • Agree to be tested if symptoms develop

Monday 13 July update

Effective immediately the Northern Territory has changed their travel restrictions to stop all travel from declared coronavirus hotspots. All of Victoria is currently a declared hotspot.

There are now no travel exemptions for those coming from a hotspot and you will not be allowed to enter the Northern Territory, this includes essential workers in the freight industry.

If you previously held an exemption to travel from a hotspot this is revoked immediately.

Sunday 12 July 2020

The NHVR has been advised of a major developing COVID threat for anyone who has visited Casula in New South Wales between the 3rd and 10th July and in particular the Crossroads Hotel.

NSW Health is urging anyone who attended the Crossroads Hotel at Casula between Friday 3 July and Friday 10 July to:

  • immediately self-isolate until 14 days after they were last there
  • attend a clinic for testing even if they have no symptoms
  • watch for symptoms and get retested should any respiratory symptoms occur
  • even if you get a negative test stay in isolation for 14 days.
